Douglass Hunt receives a C. Knox Massey Distinguished Service Award
The university gave Hunt its Massey Award for service, citing him as a lawyer, historian and civil servant. He had worked with C. Knox Massey for several years to set up the Massey Awards and the Carolina Seminars program.

Elson Floyd serves as UNC's first executive vice chancellor
Chancellor Michael Hooker hired Floyd in 1995 for the newly created post of executive vice chancellor, overseeing auxiliary services, facilities, business and finance, human resources, information technology, student affairs and university advancement. He left in 1998 to become president of Western Michigan University.
