  2. Award or honor · Chapel Hill UNC gives John Ehle its Distinguished Alumnus Award

    The university's 1984 citation honored Ehle as a writer and for his work, beginning as special assistant to Governor Terry Sanford in 1963 and 1964, on the School of the Arts, the School of Science and Mathematics and the Governor's School.

  3. Award or honor · Chapel Hill UNC awards Shelby Foote an honorary Doctor of Letters

    UNC-Chapel Hill conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters on Shelby Foote, a UNC student from 1935 to 1937, for his fiction and his three-volume narrative history of the Civil War.

  4. Chapel Hill UNC confers an honorary Doctor of Laws on Thomas W. Lambeth

    The university gave Lambeth an honorary degree for public service and philanthropy, citing his two years as chair of its Board of Trustees.

  5. Naming or commemoration · Chapel Hill UNC's Faculty Council adopts a resolution in memory of Zijie Yan

    At its first meeting of the year the Faculty Council held a moment of silence for Zijie Yan and adopted Resolution 2023-5 in his memory by unanimous consent, after it was read aloud in English and in Mandarin. The resolution was sent to his family.
