  2. Award or honor Vermont Royster wins the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Writing

    Vermont C. Royster, a UNC graduate, won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing for his regular editorials in The Wall Street Journal.

  3. Appointment, election or service · Chapel Hill UNC announces Vermont Royster will join its faculty as Kenan professor of journalism and public affairs

    The university announced that Vermont C. Royster, retiring as editor of The Wall Street Journal, would join the UNC faculty the next September as Kenan professor of journalism and public affairs. He taught journalism and political science in Chapel Hill until 1981.

  5. Award or honor · Chapel Hill Vermont Royster is among the first inductees of UNC's North Carolina Journalism Hall of Fame

    The UNC School of Journalism began its Journalism Hall of Fame in 1981, inducting Vermont Royster, former editor of The Wall Street Journal, with Pete McKnight and Charles Kuralt.

  6. Award or honor · Chapel Hill Vermont Royster wins the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary

    Vermont Royster, Kenan professor emeritus in the UNC School of Journalism, won the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished commentary for his weekly Wall Street Journal column "Thinking Things Over." It was his second Pulitzer, thirty years after the first.

  7. Award or honor · Chapel Hill Vermont Royster receives the Presidential Medal of Freedom

    Vermont Royster, who had returned to UNC as a professor after retiring from The Wall Street Journal, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1986.
