  2. Appointment, election or service · Chapel Hill William D. Moss becomes pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Chapel Hill

    Coming from pastorates in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, William Dygnum Moss arrived in North Carolina in 1903 to lead the Presbyterian Church of Chapel Hill. Apart from six years in Washington, he served the congregation until his death in 1932.

  3. Construction or physical change · Franklin Street and Battle Park, Chapel Hill Students improve Franklin Street and Battle Park during Community Service Week

    During Graham's first statewide Community Service Week, about a hundred students worked on Chapel Hill: one crew graded Franklin Street under Joseph Hyde Pratt with teams paid for by merchants and bankers, others cleared the grounds around Swain Hall, cleaned the Battle Park trails under the Rev. W. D. Moss and gathered trash from the alleys.

  4. Life event · President's House, UNC; Chapel of the Cross, Chapel Hill Susan Moses Graham, the president's wife, dies at Chapel Hill

    Susan Moses Graham, 34, died on the last day of the fall session after six weeks of infection. Remaining classes were called off, and she was buried in the Chapel Hill cemetery on December 23 after a service at the Chapel of the Cross. She had helped found the Chapel Hill Community Club.

  5. Award or honor · Memorial Hall, UNC, Chapel Hill A subdued wartime commencement honors the governor, Senator Overman and the Rev. W. D. Moss

    With about a third of the class of 1918 already in camps, the university gave honorary degrees to Governor Bickett, Senator Lee S. Overman, Edwin Mims and the Presbyterian pastor W. D. Moss. Frederic C. Howe, immigration commissioner at New York, gave the address.

  6. Life event · Chapel Hill President Edward Kidder Graham dies of influenza and pneumonia at his home in Chapel Hill

    Graham, 42, president since 1914 and regional director of the Student Army Training Corps for the South Atlantic states, died on Saturday night after five days' illness. The SATC battalion escorted the funeral, conducted at the grave by W. D. Moss of the Presbyterian church; Josephus Daniels and Newton D. Baker sent tributes.

  7. Naming or commemoration · Chapel Hill The rebuilt Presbyterian church on Franklin Street is dedicated as Sprunt Memorial

    The Presbyterian church at 209 East Franklin Street, remodeled in 1919-1920 mostly at the expense of James Sprunt as a memorial to his wife, Luola Murchison Sprunt, was dedicated as the Sprunt Memorial Presbyterian Church. William D. Moss was its pastor.
