Jacob Jackson Farm log dwelling is built
A single-pen hewn-log cabin, the oldest part of the Maple Hill house on St. Mary's Road about 2.8 miles northeast of Hillsborough, is dated to about 1810 or earlier. The National Register nomination credits it, perhaps, to yeoman farmer Jacob Jackson and finds no support for a local tradition dating it to 1750.

Maple Hill farmhouse is built
Jacob Jackson is thought to have built a two-story, weatherboarded log farmhouse in the Federal style about 1820, south of the earlier cabin on his farm northeast of Hillsborough. The date rests on its styling and on Jackson's documented residence there by 1822; a Greek Revival wing followed about 1855 and a connector joined the buildings in 1940.

Jacob Jackson Farm is listed in the National Register
The National Park Service listed the Jacob Jackson Farm, also called Maple Hill, in the National Register of Historic Places on March 17, 1994, for its architecture and agriculture. The 63-acre district on St. Mary's Road northeast of Hillsborough includes a c. 1810 log cabin, a c. 1820 Federal farmhouse and a barn built about 1855 to 1910.
