  2. Bill Chance opens the Hillsboro Lunch on West King Street

    Founding or opening · 118 West King Street, Hillsborough

    Bill Chance opened the Hillsboro Lunch, a sandwich bar and short-order eatery next to Wynne's Beauty Salon, serving Cotton Nichols' barbecue, Brunswick stew and milkshakes from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Margaret Riley, formerly of the Hickory House, ran the service.

  3. Fire damages the Hillsboro Lunch on West King Street

    Disaster or outbreak · 118 West King Street, Hillsborough

    A Sunday night fire, blamed on spontaneous combustion, broke a front plate glass window and damaged the partition between the kitchen and the lunch room. Owner Bill Chance said he was fully insured and would reopen once repairs were made.

  4. Bozo and Lillian Taylor open a second dining room at the Hillsboro Lunch

    Construction or physical change · 118 West King Street, Hillsborough

    R. T. (Bozo) Taylor Jr. and Lillian Taylor, then running the Hillsboro Lunch, opened a newly renovated dining room next to their old quarters, giving them two dining rooms for daily meals and catering. The Hillsboro Merchants Association soon began holding its luncheon meetings there.
