Flat Rock AME Church is organized
Flat Rock, an African Methodist Episcopal congregation, was organized about 1915 and built a 300-seat church in 1952.

Flat Rock church builds its frame church at St. Mary's and New Sharon Church roads
Soon after the congregation formed in 1915, members of Flat Rock church built a one-story frame church in a plain Gothic style at the corner of St. Mary's and New Sharon Church roads, the center of one of two Black settlements that grew up along the road after emancipation.
