Howard Mumford Jones wins the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction
Howard Mumford Jones, who had taught at the University of North Carolina from 1925 to 1930, won the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for O Strange New World (1964), a study of American culture from the discovery through the Jacksonian era. He was then retired from Harvard.
