  2. Appointment, election or service · Chapel Hill Horace Williams begins teaching philosophy at the University of North Carolina

    Williams joined the faculty in 1890 as professor of philosophy and chaired the department from 1890 until 1935. He taught at Chapel Hill for fifty years, until his death in 1940.

  4. Appointment, election or service · Chapel Hill Horace Williams holds the Kenan professorship of philosophy

    Williams was named a Kenan professor at the June 1920 commencement, announced by President Chase together with W. C. Coker and Louis R. Wilson. He held the Kenan chair of philosophy until 1935 and taught as professor emeritus afterwards.
