  2. Hillsborough Superintendent George F. Williams defends the demerit system at Stanford Junior High

    A Concerned Parents Group met in Hillsborough to protest suspensions under the demerit system at C. W. Stanford Junior High and voted to take its case to the school board and, failing that, to court. George F. Williams defended the system as fair while saying alternatives were under discussion.

  3. Appointment, election or service · Orange County Judge Stanley Peele wins the Democratic primary for his district court seat

    Incumbent district judge Stanley Peele of Chapel Hill won the primary with 13,390 votes to 5,445 for Chapel Hill attorney Charles Hodson and 2,171 for Gerid Cumby of Alamance.

  4. Construction or physical change · Hillsborough Orange County Public Library moves to larger quarters in Hillsborough

    Volunteers were sought to move the Orange County Public Library's 30,000 books from the 1934 library building on Churton Street to new quarters in the Human Services Complex in Hillsborough, the former Hillsborough High School on West Tryon Street, with the move planned for the end of December 1981. The old building became the Orange County Historical Museum.
