  2. UNC honors its first three Black undergraduates, 55 years on

    John Lewis Brandon and LeRoy and Ralph Frasier returned to UNC for a weekend of tributes marking 55 years since they enrolled, including a Friday dinner at which the Rev. William Barber called them heroes.

    On the Confederate monument's 100th anniversary, William J. Barber II, president of the North Carolina NAACP, spoke at a rally at its foot organized by the Real Silent Sam Committee, saying the statue had never been silent.
