This Sunday, October 17, at 2 p.m., please join us for a conversation with two special guests: Horace Johnson III, the son of the first and only Black mayor of Hillsborough, and David Caldwell, leader of the Rogers Road community in Chapel Hill and its fight against environmental racism.
This is not going to be your run-of-the mill discussion. It is going to lie somewhere between impossibly hard and impossibly hopeful. These are hard times. There might be five people in the entire universe right now who do not fear that things in the world are becoming so unrecognizable that they will not be able to feel like part of it. How do you handle that? What can you do to get by? How do you get over both intentional and unintentional (but nevertheless deep) hurts? How can we make things better?
The people who are leading this discussion and those they have invited to join to tell their stories are people who are experts … because they have had to be. Most importantly, though, they have become experts not just at getting by and getting over, but real experts on what it takes to make things better.
