Friends of the Orange County Public Library

Dear Friends,

There’s so much great news to share with you!

Book Sale

Dates/Hours:

Be sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming book sale, which will take place Friday, September 15th – Sunday, September 17th. The sale will run from 9:30 – 5:30 on Friday and Saturday, and 12:30 – 4:00 on Sunday.

Kindles For Sale:

Several used Kindle devices will be for sale for the low price of just $25 each! Come early and grab one before they sell out!

Members-Only Shopping Night:

Current Friends members get a wonderful perk – early shopping on Thursday, September 14th from 5:00 – 7:00. If you’d like to renew your membership to take advantage of this sale, you can do so at: https://focplnc.org/donate/

Volunteer:

Want to help? We can use volunteers to assist with the sale, especially setting up on Wednesday, September 13th and Thursday, September 14th. To volunteer, sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f4da9ad2da0fd0-september#/

Free Books For Literacy:

To support literacy, all children and school teachers attending the event may select 3 free children’s books. We will also allow school teachers and representatives of non-profits to take all the books they’d like at no cost during the last hour of the sale, 3:00 – 4:00 on Sunday, September 17th.

The Cora Grace Collection Of Picture Book Art

From September – December, library patron Cora McLean’s collection of original artwork from favorite picture book illustrators will be displayed at the library. This fabulous collection includes around 100 paintings and drawings from over 65 illustrators, mostly Caldecott winners and recognizable illustrators like Maurice Sendak, Eric Carle, and Clement Hurd. Quite a collection for a three-year-old!

Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to see this great art! More about this wonderful collection here: https://www.coragracecollection.com/

Be sure to attend the annual Friends meeting on Thursday, December 14th at 7:00, when the McLean family will present a short program about the collection.

Furniture Fundraiser:

In recognition of this special display, the McLean family has joined with the Friends of the Orange County Public Library to raise funds for new furniture for neurodivergent youth. To support this wonderful cause, click here: https://focplnc.org/donate/

This special fundraiser will run from September 1st – December 31st.

With a donation of $25, you can also get an optional individual Friends membership, or for a donation of $40 you can get an optional family membership.

Join Us For Nanowrimo

November is National Novel Writing Month (“NaNoWriMo”). The Friends will be hosting a NaNoWriMo event on Saturday, November 4th at the library. Bring your laptop, notebooks, pens, and ideas, and spend the day in the company of other writers working on your craft.

Upcoming Board Meeting

The next Friends Board meeting will be held on Thursday, September 14th starting at 7:00 pm in the library’s meeting room. All Friends members are welcome to attend. The agenda appears below.

Because the book sale will be set up in the room, we will not have a Zoom video option for the meeting. However, you may attend virtually by phone via the dial-in option. The dial-in information appears at the bottom of this message.

Thank you for being a Friend!

Sincerely,

Diane Kelly, President

Friends of the Orange County Public Library
