Spring is almost here, and so is our next book sale!
Book Sale
The sale will run from Friday, April 5th – Sunday, April 7th, with a Friends members-only pre-sale on Thursday, April 4th from 5:00-7:00 pm. Take advantage of this benefit for Friends members only, and shop early for the best book selection! The sale will be open on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, and from noon – 4:00 pm on Sunday. All children get three free books, so be sure to bring your kids or grandchildren along. Sunday is bag day, when shoppers get a full bag of books for only $7, or two full bags for only $10. What a deal!

National Library Week
National Library Week 2024 will be celebrated Sunday, April 7th through Saturday, April 13th. Days of note during that week are:
Monday, April 8: Right to Read Day is a National Day of Action in support of the right to read. The State of America’s Libraries Report is released, including Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2023.
Tuesday, April 9: National Library Workers Day, a day for everyone to recognize the valuable contributions made by library workers.
Wednesday, April 10: National Library Outreach Day, a day the dedicated library professionals who are meeting their patrons where they are.
Thursday, April 11: Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates to urge members of Congress to protect the freedom to read.
DRINK DONATIONS NEEDED FOR STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCH! On Monday, April 8th, the Friends will host an appreciation lunch for the library staff. Canned drink donations are a great way to say “thanks” to the hardworking library employees. If you’d like to donate, please drop the drinks at the library by Friday, April 5th or bring the drinks with you to the book sale when you come to the members-only shopping night on Thursday, April 4th. Thanks!
Story Trail Sponsorship
Thanks to everyone who has already donated to support the Story Trail!
In case you missed it, the Friends recently voted to fund a “story trail”, which is a series of stations along a walkway or hiking trail. Each station has a page or two from a book that kids can read as they go along. This fun trail is a joint project between the library and the Parks and Recreation Department.
Donations in any amount will help underwrite the costs of the story trail, so if you’re getting a tax refund or find an extra $10 in your jeans pocket while doing laundry, please consider supporting this worthwhile literacy project. Individuals who donate $250 by May 1st or businesses that donate $500 by May 1st will be named on a panel attached to a station.
Donations can be made via the Friends website at: https://focplnc.org/donate/. Be sure to click on “Write a Note” at the top of the page where you enter your credit card or PayPal information to designate your funds for this project and to indicate the individual name or business name for inclusion on the panel. You may also drop a check at the library or mail a check to the Friends of the Orange County Public Library, c/o Orange County Public Library, 137 W. Margaret Lane, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
March Meeting
The Friends board meets the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 in the library’s meeting room, with a Zoom option for those who would like to attend virtually. All Friends members are welcome to attend. The agenda and Zoom link for the March 21st meeting follow my signature below.
