Orange County Indexed

Places in the chronology

Every building, business, church, school, street and spot the chronology’s entries name, with a link to its page or to each entry.

The chronology’s entries name 573 places at least two times each, besides 130 streets and street addresses. 428 of the places have a page of their own and link to it. Every other place lists the entries that name it.

Looking for a town, community or river? The Places page has them on a map.

How the index is made

Each entry in the chronology says where it happened. The index gathers the buildings, businesses, churches, schools and other spots those place lines name, and groups the forms that are plainly the same place (“Court house” and “Orange County Courthouse”). A name used in more than one town, such as “Post office”, is listed once for each town. Places the entries name only once are left out, as are boards, courts and townships, which are bodies rather than places.

Places named only in an entry’s description, and not in its place line, are not indexed. To find those, search the chronology.
