Cecil W. Wooten (born 1945), of the UNC faculty, reflects on growing up in Kinston in eastern North Carolina during the 1940s and 50s and on gay life in Chapel Hill. Recorded July 16, 2001, by Chris McGinnis for the Southern Oral History Program, the interview opens with his early sense of his orientation and moves to the Carolina Gay and Lesbian Association, the gay liberation movement, and gay men's social world in town. Published online in 2007 in Documenting the American South.
