Letters of 1877 to Dr. Thomas Fanning Wood of Wilmington, first secretary of the new State Board of Health. B. Rush Senseny writes about a joint book on vaccines, Dr. Benjamin Becker recalls vaccinating since 1817, and doctors answer plans for county medical societies under the board. Diphtheria and smallpox also come up, and Hillsborough is among the places the letters touch. 154 images.
