The diary Ruffin Wirt Tomlinson kept as a student at the University of North Carolina in 1841 and 1842, edited and printed in a journal in 1953 in two installments with a map. Tomlinson lived from 1817 to 1844, and his entries give a first hand account of Chapel Hill student life in the antebellum years.
