Biddle, Samuel Simpson · 1764

Letters and business papers kept across four generations by the Simpson and Biddle families, planters and merchants of New Bern, from 1764. Chief among them are John Simpson (1728 to 1788), a Revolutionary leader in the town, his son Samuel, and a great-grandson, Samuel Simpson Biddle (1811 to 1872). Baptists, farming, schooling, the Civil War and family members at the University of North Carolina are among the topics. Two linear feet.
