Sharon Rose Powell (born 1947) began at UNC as a freshman in autumn 1964, when women were only about a tenth of the entering class. Interviewed by Pamela Dean in June 1989, she recalls campus life for women students in the mid-1960s, the sexism she met in higher education, the student movements of the decade, and her own path toward feminism and women's rights work.
