Michael Schwalbe's portrait of two Black men of Carrboro, Matthew Mason (1911-2002) and Anthony Atwater (1933-2000), whose lives ran through most of the twentieth century in a Southern mill town, used to think about race, work and manhood in the South. The twelve chapters carry titles such as 'Spoiling for manhood', 'Driving Mr. Mason', 'Mudslide' and 'Home again'. Published by the University Press of Mississippi in 2004, 252 pages with illustrations.
