Samuel A. Ashe's eight volume set of North Carolina biographies, published by C.L. Van Noppen from 1905 and running from the colonial period forward. The sketches take in governors, judges and public men, among them William Tryon, Frederick Nash, Richard Henderson and Matt W. Ransom. Genealogists use the set as a name source for families across the state, Orange County included.

Chief Justice Little : with some account of his descendants

Haywood, Marshall De Lancey, 1871-1933 · 1895 · Students of the University

A biographical sketch of William Little, the colonial judge who died in 1734, together with an account of the descendants who carried his name. Marshall De Lancey Haywood signed it at the end. The students of the University printed it at Chapel Hill in 1895 from the April number of the North Carolina University Magazine.
