Statewide Civil War collection of the State Archives of North Carolina, dated 1860 to 1965. It gathers pardon petitions, bounty payrolls, quartermaster vouchers and supply papers, disabled veterans' claims and letters about artificial limbs, regimental and unit papers, muster rolls, diaries, reminiscences, clippings and sheet music. Orange County is one of the many North Carolina counties represented.

Gales family · 1794

Papers of Joseph Gales Sr. (1761 to 1841), state printer, editor of the Raleigh Register from 1799 to 1833 and mayor of Raleigh, and of his wife Winifred, their sons and a grandson, 1794 to 1864. They include copied reminiscences in which Winifred Gales describes her family. Chapel Hill is one of the places touched. State Archives of North Carolina, PC.146.
