Frances B. Hogan (1922-2009), who first directed women's athletics at Carolina, talks with Mary Jo Festle across two sessions, May 23 and June 3, 1991, in a Southern Oral History Program interview of more than two and a half hours. Hogan recalls how little was offered to women athletes when she began and the work of securing playing space, equipment and opponents for programs the athletic administration largely overlooked, amid the wider push for women's rights. Published online in 2006 in Documenting the American South.
