William W. McLendon's biography of W. Reece Berryhill (1900-1979), the dean who led the UNC medical school from a two-year program to a four-year school with a university hospital. Chapters follow him from a rural Southern childhood through study at UNC, Harvard and Western Reserve, the Poe Commission and Sanger report, the 1940s Good Health movement, and his later work in community medical education. Published 2007 by the UNC Library with the Medical Foundation of North Carolina, 477 pages, illustrated.
