Friends run a community art gallery in the Carrboro Branch Library
Soon after the Carrboro Branch Library opened in 1995 in the shared McDougle schools media center, the Friends of the Carrboro Branch Library set up a gallery for two-dimensional art, run by a volunteer art committee, with shows running by about 1997. By 2015 it had shown more than 1,750 local artists in more than 60 exhibitions, and by the time the branch closed in 2022 it had shown more than 2,000.
