  2. Benton Utley buys the Hogg house and opens a dry goods store

    Founding or opening · Utley's dry goods store, Hogg house, Franklin Street, Chapel Hill

    Gavin Hogg sold the family house to Benton Utley, who shared it with James Hogg and built a dry goods store beside it. The store failed, and Utley sold house and stock to Zachariah Trice in 1837.
