  2. Trustees mortgage all university property to settle its debts

    Property or economic transaction · Chapel Hill

    Facing $103,000 of debt against worthless bank stock and Confederate securities, the trustees compromised with the Bank of North Carolina and other creditors at a quarter of the debt in gold, pledging all the university's property at Chapel Hill and its Buncombe County lands. The General Assembly also voted $7,000 for one year to pay the officers.

  3. William A. Graham of Hillsborough joins the prosecution of Governor Holden

    Law, policy or court · North Carolina Senate chamber, Raleigh

    The House managers announced to the impeachment court that former governor William A. Graham of Hillsborough, with Thomas Bragg and Augustus S. Merrimon, would act as their counsel. Graham argued points of evidence for the prosecution through the trial.
