Friends of the Orange County Public Library

Dear Friends,

Book Sale Update

Our recent book sale was another great success!

Thanks to everyone who helped with sorting, set up, sales, and takedown, and to everyone who donated books, too. It truly takes a village. Together, we raised $3,745.50 to support the library. Hooray!

Our next book sale will be held on Friday, March 21st through Sunday, March 23rd, with a Friends Members-Only pre-sale on Thursday, March 20th from 5:00 – 7:00. Be sure to mark your calendars!

Book Donations

We want your books! If you have gently-used recently-published books, we’d love to have them for our next sale. If you have a small quantity (one to two boxes or bags), please bring them to the library. Due to limited on-site storage, for larger donations we ask that you email Friends President Diane Kelly to make arrangements.

Write That Novel!

Are you a writer or aspiring writer? In November, the Friends will be hosting two write-ins. Enjoy a quiet space to focus on your craft.

The first write-in will be held on Saturday, November 2nd from 9:30 – 5:30. We’ll have prizes for productivity, as well as published authors on site to answer your questions about writing and publishing. Register at: NOV. 2 WRITE-IN REGISTRATION

The second write-in will be held on Saturday, November 9th from 9:30 – 12:30. Register at: NOV. 9 WRITE-IN REGISTRATION

The November 9th write-in will be followed at 1:00 by a panel featuring authors from the North Carolina chapter of Horror Writers of America. Learn how to write horror stories, and get tips on writing and publishing. The authors will have books available for purchase. Add an autographed book to your collection, or buy one for a holiday gift. Learn more about the panelist authors and register for the Horror Panel at: HORROR PANEL REGISTRATION

Next Meeting

FOCPL meetings are held at 7:00 on the third Thursday of the month. Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 7:00 in the library’s meeting room. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Run For The Board!

Want to support the library with a minimal time commitment? Run for the Friends board! Serving on the board is a small commitment. We hold monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00. The meetings normally last less than an hour. We ask that board members work a shift or two at the twice-a-year book sales as their schedule permits. Board members may also help out the annual staff appreciation lunch, author events, and other programs that interest them. Serving on the Friends board is a great way to support the library and enrich your community.

Elections will be held at the December meeting. If you’re interested in running for the board, please email the Friends at FOCPLNC@gmail.com with a short bio that includes your relevant work and volunteer experience so that we can share the information with the membership.

As always, thank you for being a Friend!

Sincerely,

Diane Kelly, President
