Friends of the Orange County Public Library

Dear Friends,

We hope you are enjoying a fun summer so far!

Happy Juneteenth! Just a reminder that there will be no Friends meeting this month due to the Juneteenth holiday.

Upcoming Meetings

Our next meeting will be Thursday, July 17th at 7:00 pm in the library’s meeting room. All members are welcome.

If you attended the Community Resource Fair, you might have met board members Tess and Meg. Thanks to Tess and Meg for representing the Friends at the event!

The Friends board generally meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00. We would love to add some new members to the board. Board service is a minimal time commitment and a great way to serve the library and your community. If you are interested, please email the Friends at focplnc@gmail.com for more information.

Creative Writing Program For Teen Writers

The Friends are thrilled to be hosting a creative writing program for teen writers on Saturday, July 19th from 2:00 – 4:00 featuring middle-grade author Alex Evanovich. This program is a fantastic opportunity for young writers to learn from a pro.

This program is for children who have completed grades 6-12.

Registration required. Register at: https://orangecountync.librarycalendar.com/event/draft-creative-writing-workshop-alex-evanovich-grades-6-12-19583

This is a hands-on workshop, so participants should bring paper and something to write with.

Participants will receive a copy of Alex’s book Keeper Chance and the Conundrum of Chaos. The Friends will also be giving away prizes. Woo hoo!

Thanks to Purple Crow Books in Hillsborough for their support of this program!

Book Donations

Got some gently-used books you’d like to put to good use? Donate them for the next Friends used book sale! Proceeds from the used book sales support library programs and services.

We can use recent fiction (published in 2000 or later), classics, non-fiction, and children’s books. If you have one or two small boxes or bag of books, you can bring them to the front desk of the library. For larger donations, please contact us at focplnc@gmail.com so that the Friends can make arrangements to accept your donation.

Please note that we cannot accept books with water damage, torn covers, or significantly yellowed pages, as these do not sell.

As always, thank you for being a Friend!

Sincerely,

Diane Kelly, President
