On November 24, the Friends of the Orange County Public Library will host its first ever Hillsborough Local Author Book Fair! You can read more about the event here. Leading up, we’ll be posting short interviews with some of our author guests! First up, Emily Buehler!
Tell us about your latest work.
While my first two books were nonfiction, I’m now working on new-adult fiction (that is, books similar to young adult but with slightly older characters). I’m currently writing a contemporary romance about an art student who gets caught up in the theft of a painting from an estate and has to help locate the painting (and prove herself innocent).
Who did you dedicate your first book to and why?
I dedicated my first book, Bread Science, to my parents, who have always supported me. They were not thrilled when I left the secure-seeming world of chemistry to become a bread baker, and I don’t know what they thought when I said I was going to self-publish a book on the science of baking, but they offered to be the “distribution office” and have diligently mailed books ever since. They have never flagged in their commitment to me as a writer.
What’s your biggest motivation for wanting to be a writer?
I feel depressed when I don’t write! But also, I think writing is how I am being called to contribute to the world and make it a better place.
