INTRODUCTION

Lucinda Munger opened the joint meeting with the theme that, “We are all one …” Both groups have different focuses right now, but the primary mission is the same (public libraries that are a credit to the community and the people they serve). We make sure things are accomplishe d and see them to their completion. How can we support each other, the staff and the community of Orange County? We cover everyone in the family and community. FOCPL: Very thankful for everything we ’ve done and continue to do. Carrboro: A very tenacio us group; don ’t take no for an answer – so admirable what they’re doing. Very proud of us and honored to be a part.

PURPOSE OF MEETING

Janet welcomed everyone. Believes this meeting is historic in that the groups have never met before. Wanted to get t o know each other. Both share love of books and libraries. We (FOCPL) are still working on infrastructure/policies and not so much fundraising at this point. Appreciate and support what Carrboro ’s doing – have seen their battles, fighting to build the S outhwest Branch – very impressed and look forward to being “friends” and getting a tour once it’s built.

Everyone in attendance then introduced themselves, their position with the organization and a brief comment about their role(s).

A few items that came from the Carrboro introductions were as follows: - Carrboro’s big book sale/fundraiser in the MacDougal cafeteria will be held Nov. 3rd and 4th - They had a 1 -day retreat recently with brainstorming dedicated to just being together in an environment that wasn ’t so rushed like at meetings. They were able to discuss bylaws, increasing membership, etc.

DISCUSSION GROUPS

The attendees split up into four (4) discussion groups to exchange ideas and practices between the organizations. The following top ics were discussed for approximately ½ hour: Membership/Fundraising, Programs/Events, Communications/Advocacy, and Book Sales.

Ed Flowers, an FOCPL member, took a group photo at the end of the meeting to memorialize the event.

The meeting concluded at approximately 7:45 pm.
