Treasurer's Report ~ Tori Williams Reid
Report tabled due to insufficient transfer of documents to Tori from Mark; specifically waiting for monthly spreadsheet and log-‐in information for Triangle Foundation; Tori has communicated with Mark, awaiting response.
Tori informed group she and Mark moved account from SECU to Community One Bank in Hillsborough. They transferred $16,000. and deposited $202 from ongoing book sales.
She and Lori have filed signatures for check writing purposes.
Tori reports she also renewed post office box for another one year term.
Book Consignment/Ongoing Sale ~ Marcia Cameron Received 2nd quarter payment of $216.04 from Consignment
Memberships Report ~ Tori Williams Reid presented in lieu of Robin Crawford A few new memberships have been paid.
Secretary's Report ~ Tabled in Shannon Turlington's absence
FOCPL Hillsborough's Last Friday Report ~ Lori-‐Anne Shapiro ▪ Lori completed application for table at event for July and August ; Tori paid fee. ▪ In July, Lori focused on volunteer recruitment and informing public of upcoming Friends’ events, great response with 25+ people signing up to become volunteers, providing email addresses and phone numbers! Lori, Jack Ramsey and Tommy McNeill were the volunteers. ▪ In August Lori will pursue same focus; she also hopes to solicit two new people for volunteers, and will use event as opportunity for outreach training.
September 18-‐20th Fall Book Sale ~ Stacey Gamble & Lori-‐Anne Shapiro ▪ Decision made to waive Friday membership fee, now open and free to public.
▪ On Saturday & Sunday three different local authors will be reading from their books, primarily geared to children and young adults; extensive publicity will be done to promote these Readings.
▪ Stacey working with local organizations and schools to pick up leftover books on Sunday at 4pm to coincide with sale’s closing. ▪ Stacey will edit Cash Out sheet Form for the event. ▪ Lori-‐Anne recruiting volunteers and putting together volunteer schedule
Report on Staff Fest Planning ~ Lori-‐Anne Shapiro ▪ Contact made with members of Carrboro Friends Board ▪ Event will be October 4th, 6-‐8pm at Mystery Brewing on Nash Street ▪ Board members should arrive at 5:30pm to assist ▪ Lori arranged for food truck Chirba Chirba (voted #1 Best Food Truck in the Triangle); Board requested that a second food truck option be identified (possibly Mexican food); Lori agreed to look, though concerns noted.
▪ Volunteer Samantha Bryant is creating a hard copy invite, ticket and e-‐vite for the event. ▪ Each employee will be given a $5 ticket to use towards food or beer.
▪ Idea of door prizes etc. is being dropped.
▪ Event is being promoted as celebratory opportunity for Friends, Patrons and Volunteers to come together to show staff appreciation and enjoy fellowship.
Report on Annual Membership Meeting ~ Lori-‐Anne Shapiro ▪ Event will be December 5th at 10am; will focus on motto “Creating the Passion to Read” ▪ Contact made with members of Carrboro Friends Board ▪ Lori reviewed July Meeting when Tommy stated his intention to have Howard Lee as guest speaker; however, no vote took place.
In preparation for this evening’s meeting Lori compiled a written summary of Lee’s work, education, career, major accomplishments, etc.
She read from this summary and passed it around along with a copy of Lee’s book.
She then asked for a show of hands for all those in favor of Mr. Lee as keynote speaker at FOCPL Annual Meeting.
No hand was raised.
Lori then asked for a show of hands on having Jill McCorkle as guest speaker; all in favor.
▪ Budget set for event at $500. Marcia will work with Weaver Street Market to supply food.
▪ Lori will schedule committee meeting with volunteers to begin event planning. ▪ Additional volunteer recruitment is currently underway.
▪ Nominations for 2016 Board need to be on slate by November 5th; will publicize for nominations via List Serv, Library’s front Desk, our social media sites, and at local book shops (e.g. Flyleaf and Purple Crow); according to by-‐laws, membership must be notified no less than 30 days in advance of Meeting,
Social Media Monthly Report ~ Stacey Gamble ~ Facebook page is doing well and getting lots of activity. ~ Will continue to utilize both Facebook and Twitter for upcoming events.
