AGENDA

  1. Call to Order: 6:30 p.m.

Present:

  1. Candlelight Tour (guest: Kim from Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce)
  2. Events Planning: Local Author Book Fair, Comic Fair, others

May 25: HIllsborough Comics Fair. Room open from 10-4 (for display, sales by vendors). 2 panel discussions. 11:00: On the Shoulders of Giants (Stan Lee and other influencers). 1:00: Superheroes Flying Off the Page (superheroes in media). 2:00: cosplay winners (kids and teen and up; Atomic Empire gift certificates sold to us for 20% off).

MOTION: James/Samantha. to buy $100 worth of gift certificates for $80 from Atomic. Passed unanimously.

James will make posters.

Propose Friends Table with giveaway comics and forms for cosplay contest. Judges are three of the artists. Library probably already has permission forms for photos. Andrea will followup on having library staff for photographs.

14 tables needed.

September 25: Local Authors Book Fair. Several big names from last year cannot attend. Jill McCorkle, Daniel Wallace, and Steven Petro will be our big name guests. Current Hillsborough Dee Striebling will be here. 2019 Piedmont Laureate David ___ is a firm maybe. Small press: AfroCentric Books will attend.

News of Orange has a new editor. Might need to walk in and ask.

WHUP: Bob Bertman interview opportunity.

Summer movies. Last Fridays in June 28 (ET) 6:30 p.m.; and July 26. (Wall-ee)

October ghost stories.

Candlelight tour: December 8. We can sell merchandise if we wish. And they’ll want volunteers. Looking to us to help coordinate authors, to read at each stop. A juried application. Also a film club scheduled day. Teardrop will have an opening reception (ticketed), then the tour.

$2607 (with memberships, too). Lackluster.

Consider getting plastic totes for storage. Samantha proposes that James buys 6 tubs and gets reimbursed. Passed unanimously.

Table at Summer Learning June 1: most board members are not available. Shannon will ask more broadly.

Library Update 5/9/19

  1. The Community Engagement Division wall and office are up and running. Thank you to the Friends for making that happen for us, through your donation.
  2. The County Manager has presented her recommended budget to the County Commissioners. The Library had requested approximately $30,000 in new funds for materials and digital offerings. The manager recommended $15,000. This is the first increase in our collections since 2014. In 2016 we did have a small increase in collections due to the addition of the kiosk.
  3. Southern has stalled until the Town of Carrboro provides us with next steps. Town is working on a parking deck solution including the location in Carrboro prior to the next steps.
  4. Library held a Staff Development morning on Thursday, Apr 25th.
  5. Summer Learning kickoff is Sat June 1st.
  6. Membership Update
  • 75-80 members current.
  • goal is to make an online option to pay.
  • wild apricot system. maybe start using. integrated for website, newsletter, membership records, etc.
  • Karen of Carrboro group, they have 12 members.
  • Move to set up a paypal to take online payments. Unanimous approval.
