AGENDA
- Call to Order: 6:30 p.m.
Present: Gail Corrado, Shannon Turlington, Grace Johnston, Stacey Gamble, Andrea Tullos, Nancy Crews, Wendy Scott
- Guest: Wendy Scott, potential Board Member
Wendy is a neighbor of Gail’s who is potentially interested in joining the board. She has a degree in Library Science from UNC, and currently works in HR for NC State’s libraries.
- Library Update
Written update from Nancy:
- The LSTA grant is now active for Stephanie Knop to start preparing and ordering supplies. The Boxmobile preparation is first on her agenda along with meeting representatives from schools and daycare centers. We would like to thank the Friends for their support.
- I have been arranging with Denise Brown, volunteer coordinator, to have two to four volunteers assist with the setup on Thurs. 18th morning and the cleanup on Sun. 21st afternoon. The tables for setup will arrive on Thurs. morning.
- Membership Update
We currently have 76 active members. Grace has sent out 15 emails out to lapsed members inviting them to renew through the recently created Paypal link. Today we got our first donation through Paypal! Grace requests the login info for our website in order to add a Paypal donate button to the website.
- Finance Update
We currently have about $48,000 in the bank. Shannon now has online access to our bank account. Shannon has reconciled the bank account to date but will set up a time with Gail to show her how to do it in the future.
- Renewal of Directors Liability Insurance
Shannon has receiving a renewal notice from our insurance for $622 annually. The Board voted to approve the renewal. Stacey will write a check.
- July Pop-up Book Sale
Next week: setup Thursday, breakdown Sunday. Setup volunteer numbers look good. Good coverage for the sale itself. Three volunteers for breakdown as well. Stacey requested that things be put back in the Friends room neatly after the sale. A discussion of cleaning and organizing the Friends room followed. Stacey will promote on Facebook and other venues. Nancy will make a flyer and have it ready to distribute early next week.
- Events Planning: Local Author Book Fair, others
James, Samantha, Stacey, and Shannon met for some book fair planning and divvied up advertising tasks. Jill McCorkle will be the headliner, and three or four different authors have contacted us wanting to be involved. Daniel Wallace declined; he is unavailable. James has made flyers; one is hanging in the library. We are promoting on Facebook. We feel good about coverage. Nancy will reach out to James about coordinating logistics.
- Open discussion - topics not covered in agenda
- Andrea passed around a summary from Libby of current activities in the library’s partnership with the chamber. One thing on the list was whether the Friends would like to have a float/car in the Hillsborough holiday parade. The Board discussed possibly seeing if there was interest among the general membership. Maybe a local arthur would like to sit in the car and throw candy?
- We will plan to put together our slate of board nominations at the next meeting, in September.
- Potential book sale dates for 2020: January 23-26; April 18-26; July 23-26; October 17-25.
- Adjournment: 8:00 p.m.
