Friends of the Orange County Public Library Minutes, January 19, 2021 AGENDA 1. Call to Order 6:30 p.m. Present (via Zoom) Board Members: Shannon Turlington, Samantha Bryant, Gail Corrado, Michael Corrado, Stacey Gamble, Grace Johnston, Diane Kelly; Library Staff: Nancy Crews, Erin Sapienza 2. Election of Officers The following were approved unanimously • Shannon Turlington, President • Gail Corrado, Vice President • Grace Johnston, Treasurer • Wendy Scott, Secretary 3. Library Update Nancy Crews introduced Erin Sapienza, Assistant Director for the Library. Erin and Nancy gave an update on the Library’s services while the building has been closed due to Covid. The staff have implemented a successful curbside pickup that allows patrons to continue to borrow materials. A curbside printing service is also available. The Library plans to participate in the Summer Learning program in 2021 and will let us know what needs they may have for support. 4. Fundraising Book donations and sales are not possible due to the pandemic. An alternative possibility was suggested by Diane Kelly, who offered to donate a five-night stay at her family’s Beech Mountain cabin. Diane and Grace will lead a planning effort for a raffle as part of our membership drive, planned for March. Grace reports that we have about 70 active members and approximately 250 lapsed members. If we are able to have in-person gatherings, a Writer’s Workshop could be held in November. Gail will lead a programmatic effort, a monthly “Ask an Expert” series on various topics of general interest (for example, gardening) to help raise awareness of library resources available during the pandemic, as well as of the Friends. 5.
