2) APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM LAST MEETING
Minutes from the last meeting were unanimously approved.
3) TREASURER’S REPORT
-Grace reported the bank balance is $45,422
-Chamber membership renewed
-Solicitation license and 990 renewal filed
4) MEMBERSHIP REPORT
-Grace reported that we currently have 153 active members
-We received 8 gifts totaling $333
5) LIBRARY REPORT
-Nancy reported the Hillsborough Climate Change event went well. There will be an appreciation event at the library Thursday, May 23 from 6:30-8:00
-The community book club event will be on June 11 at 6:30
-The library is preparing for Juneteenth.
-Discussion about the sensory event in April. Registration/participation was down, and Nancy noted that more promotion is needed. All comments were positive.
-Nancy also reported that the front area of the library will be rearranged with chairs and tables, and reverted back to a public/community area it was pre-covid). The friends’ bookshelf will be moved back to open up the space. New signage for the friends' bookshelf has been ordered.
6) BUSINESS
A) Vote on Bylaws Amendments, approved unanimously
B) Discussion of Friend’s purpose and development of mission statement: Mission statement discussion tabled until the full board is here. Carlos Ramirez can lead the vision/mission statement development meeting when the time comes.
C) Melissa shared the proposed NaNoWriMo Event; the Community Room is reserved on November 2 for the event; The Board approved a $50 budget for the event.
D) The October 4th event with Sean Cosby and Eryk Pruitt was confirmed. Promotion ideas were discussed, including talking with Jody about how to promote within the library. The suggestion of a Board “read-a-thon” of their books.
E) Jody’s Library Proposal Funding Request (“Art of the Book: Big Fish” exhibit coming late July to the library and August 2024 to Eno Arts Mill Gallery)
Request:
- Art Installation Staff - $500
- Opening Reception - $500
- Purchase Award - $1000
The Purchase Award will enable the library to select a piece from the Arts Commission show to hang in the library, donated by the Friends of the Library.
-Funding request unanimously approved
-Jody asked for a volunteer to serve on the committee selection and/or the jury. Melissa volunteered.
F) Book Sale Update: Diane Decker reported there has been a reduction of book donations compared to the past. The next sale is in September. Between now and then it was suggested we:
- We can post on Next Door
- Nancy to put out a call for books in the next newsletter
- Diane will put it in FOCPL Newsletter
- Reach out to News of Orange/Radio station
- Diane Kelly will email chamber
- Possible donation sign for front of library to be discussed
