LIBRARY REPORT
The summer learning program was a huge success with about 1,000 children participating. The raffle baskets and snow cones were a big hit. A branch manager for the southern branch has been hired and will start 9/5. They are hoping to get into the building in early October with a potential soft opening later in the month and a grand opening in November. Since the Board of Elections is planning on using this site for early voting, the building will have to be open by 10/15. There will be a book club event at the library centered around Southern noir a week before the planned author event. September is National Library Card Sign Up month, and businesses around town are planning promotions in September. The Orange County Community Remembrance Coalition has developed a mobile exhibition that will tour the county, coming to the library in September and remaining for roughly six months. Book Walk Discussion
Mark has not yet heard back from the Boy Scouts regarding assistance with installation. There was general agreement that the Friends could pay for an installer. Diane Decker offered to contact her handyman about doing the installation. Parks and Recreations may be able to get the materials to the site. Book Sale Discussion After some discussion, the Board agreed that Diane Kelly would handle any large book donations while Diane Decker will continue to focus on all the book donations that come into the library. WHUP and the News of Orange have been contacted regarding promotion of the book sale. We will also promote through Nextdoor, etc. Paper bags are needed for bag day. Setup will be September 11. We will attempt to get the setup done on that day. The Board approved paying for helpers to assist with the setup. Community Works is scheduled at 4:00 pm on Sunday, but their building is in foreclosure, so we may need to come up with an alternative for leftover books after the sale. Sixty of the Baker and Taylor boxes were used to transfer books to the Carrboro branch. They will be returned after the sale, but boxes are needed now. The Board approved $150.00 for purchase of boxes, stencils, sharpies, etc. The library risk manager has reminded us not to block the door with the sales table. Carrboro Friends Group Discussion There is ongoing discussion. Options would include forming a new Friends group or disbanding the current Carrboro Friends group and transferring any funds to us. Meeting adjourned at 8:02 pm
