TREASURER’S REPORT
Total bank balance is $37,272.53, up $404.77 overall since last meeting. We received $313.67 refund from Colonial Inn, $290.83 cash from the ongoing book sale, $140.00 in donations and $73.07 in interest. Cash out included $372.27 quarterly sales tax payment, $31.11 to purchase prizes for the write-in events, and $9.42 in fees.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT
We have 153 active members. Since the last meeting, we received 2 gifts totaling $50.
LIBRARY REPORT
As a community hub for food and pet donations, the library is a one-stop donation site in the community. It is joining the Orange County Department of Social Services in the Toys-for-Tots program and will receive new unwrapped toys until Tuesday, Dec. 12.
Adult programming is joining the Town of Hillsborough Climate Action Plan for November in asking people to support the ecosystem by leaving their leaves this fall and winter and composting pumpkins at designated drop sites.
Youth Services is cohosting an Inclusive Minds Youth Social Club, an inclusive club designed for neurodivergent youth ages 8 – 18 and their caregivers as needed.
BUSINESS
Unsold book sale items were taken to McKay’s in exchange for a $130.00 check and a $50.00 trade voucher. The voucher was used to buy journals as prizes for the write-in event, and the check will be deposited in the Friends account.
Sean Cosby donated his honorarium back to the Friends.
Flyers have been posted around town for the write-in event, and a local writers group has been notified.
$500 was approved to purchase gift cards and gifts in bags for the staff appreciation event. Town Scoop might be a good choice for gift cards with Weaver Street as a backup.
The book walk is scheduled to be installed on October 30. There will be a groundbreaking, and sponsors will be invited to a ribbon cutting. The Orange County calendar would indicate days when city employees would be off. Coordination with various parties is necessary in order to determine a good date. A Spanish speaking staff member will be invited to the ribbon cutting.
Twenty books were ordered for the library book tree.
We need to give additional thought to what media should be kept for the book sales.
Meeting adjourned 7:30 pm
