January 16, 2025 MEETING MINUTES
1) CALL TO ORDER/ESTABLISH QUORUM – called to order at 7:03, there were not enough members in attendance to establish a quorum
Present: Board members: Mark Alexander, Diane Decker, Diane Kelly, Wendy Scott, Laura Sumrell. Library Staff: Nancy Crews, Jody Smith
2) Approval of December minutes will be on the next agenda when a quorum is established
3) TREASURER'S REPORT
Total bank balance is $38,467.56, up $1,058.23 since our last meeting. Cash in includes $500.00 from donations, $260.00 from memberships, $195.00 from the ongoing book sale, $61.03 from interest, and $56.42 from online T-shirt sales. Cash out was $14.22 in fees.
4) MEMBERSHIP REPORT
142 active members. Since last meeting, 8 gifts totaling $260.
5) LIBRARY REPORT (Nancy Crews)
Adult Service:
• Community Read Discussion – for the book “How The Word Is Passed” by Clint Smith. The discussion will be on Saturday, February 01 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
• Seed Share at the Main library from February to May people may stop by the library to pick up a pack of seeds for a plant native to this area.
Youth Service:
• Dungeons and Dragons – Diamond in the Rough, Grade 6 – 9 on Saturday, February 08 from 2:00 – 5:30 pm.
• Chill & Create: Movie, Crafts, & Snacks --- Teens may relax to a fun movie or get creative with a simple craft. It’s a place in the community for teens to just chill --- on Saturday, February 22 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm
6) BUSINESS
- Board members need to sign the Conflict of Interest document for 2025.
- July 11 is the date for Janet Evanovich program. Alex’s program will be separate at a date to be determined. Both have agreed to waive the honorarium. The board may consider using the approved $500 honorarium amount for purchase of Alex Evanovich books.
- Board members are asked to promote the January 23 Poetry Reading (Helene fundraiser) on Nextdoor, etc.
- The Writing for Video Games workshop is scheduled for March 9, 1-5 p.m.
- The Sign-Up Genius for the March book sale will be posted in early February. Set up days on Wednesday and Thursday (3/19 – 3/20) with members’ preview Thursday evening. Regular sale hours Friday – Sunday (3/21 – 23). Diane Decker is waiting for confirmation from Community Works that they will pick up remaining books on Sunday after the sale.
- Jody reported that the grand opening of the Southern Branch Library is scheduled for February 21. He asked the board about how we might want to handle donations of books to that location. There is a Friends “closet” with shelving for storage and we might want to sell those donations at our book sales. Members would like to see how much space is available. Further discussion is needed regarding sorting, logistics, etc.
