May 15, 2025 MEETING MINUTES
- CALL TO ORDER/ESTABLISH QUORUM – Meeting called to order at 7:03, quorum established. Present: Diane Decker, Grace Johnston, Diane Kelly, (by Zoom), William McLean, Meg Stouffer, Laura Sumrell, Tess Tessier. Library Staff: Nancy Crews, Jody Smith

- TREASURER'S REPORT
The total bank balance is $44,383.19, up $61.85 since our last meeting. Cash in is $575.00 in donations and memberships, $247.00 from the ongoing book sale, $131.83 from McKay's for selling the remaining books from the sale, and $60.10 in interest. Cash out includes $402.09 quarterly sales tax payment, $300.00 for Chamber membership renewal, $135.62 for the website renewal, $93.88 for book sale supplies (new card readers and packing tape) and $20.49 in processing fees.
The 990 and charitable solicitation license have been filed.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT
We have 149 active members. Since last meeting, we have received 15 gifts totaling $420.
LIBRARY REPORT (Nancy Crews)
Adult Services
The Summer Reading Kickoff will take place on May 7 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Thirty-five Community Partners will be participating, and registering children will get a ticket to get a free book for signing up.
Black Fest Events – There will be an Arts & Culture Festival June 7th – 18th including a series of events and activities leading up to Juneteenth including crafts, exhibits, book discussions, local history, self-care events, and opportunities to win prizes.
The Story Quilt Project will run through July 30. Participants can stop by the library to create a square for our community made story quilt.
Get Carded Trivia Night will take place on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm at the Rookery. Participants can show off their knowledge while enjoying local brews
Youth Services
Brave Talk Bundles: A new bag collection will be coming soon consisting of around seven books focused on “tough topics for discussions,” including such topics as food insecurity, immigration, hard histories, LGBTQ, and diverse abilities.
Business
Summer reading kickoff: Tess and Meg will staff the Friends table for the summer reading kickoff on Saturday, June 7. Diane will forward an email with additional information.
Alexis is asking about colors for tie dyed shirts.
Alex Evanovich’s program for teens is July 19.
The new date for Janet Evanovich’s program is Friday August 22. The Friends will take her to dinner before the event.
The voucher from McKays in the amount of $44.63 will be used to buy journals for the teen creative writing program.
BOOK SALE
Book sale instruction revisions were reviewed.
Diane has ordered two more readers.
We ought to review prices every year since books are getting more expensive.
Do we need instructions for changing shifts?
We need to make sure there’s a list of who is supposed to staff the sale, including contact information. We should also add emergency numbers in case something comes up at the last minute.
Grace’s form is very useful to keep accurate records of funds. We would be able to know what money was from the sale.
Board members need to know the location of the safe. Loose money should not be dumped into the safe. Manila envelopes might be a solution.
We will continue to use Community Works, because they have a large truck, can pick up at the library after the sale, and can take everything. However, we need to be prepared in case something goes wrong.
We should put out a plea for book donations on Nextdoor and the Newsletter.
Terri Kale would like to join the Board. We can reach out to see if she would like to attend the next Board meeting.
There will be no meeting in June (in recognition of Juneteenth). The next meeting will be July 17.
