July 17, 2025 MEETING MINUTES
- CALL TO ORDER/ESTABLISH QUORUM – Meeting called to order at 7:01, quorum established. Present: Diane Decker, Grace Johnston, Diane Kelly, William McLean, Meg Stouffer (by Zoom), Tess Tessier. Library Staff: Jody Smith

- TREASURER'S REPORT
Total bank balance is $44,791.40, up $408.21 since our last meeting. Cash in is $780.00 in donations and memberships, $445.50 from the ongoing book sale, and $132.51 in interest. Cash out is $903.00 for our insurance renewal and $46.80 in processing fees.
Will start requesting sales tax reimbursement.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT
We currently have 154 active members. Since last meeting, we received 13 gifts totaling $745.
LIBRARY REPORT (Nancy Crews)
Adult Service:
Plastic-Free July – Student PIRGs’ (Public Interest Research Groups) will learn how to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store it with homemade eco-bricks that repurpose non-recycling plastics. A table will be set up on July 25 and 30 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm.
Booked for Lunch: Adult Summer Reading Finale Celebration
Sunday, July 27 from 12:30pm to 3:00 pm
There will be a celebration of this year’s Adult Summer Reading Program with a special luncheon featuring local authors Eryk Pruitt and Ellery Adams
Youth Service:
Rainbow Food Taste Off – Wed., July 23 from 4:30 – 5:30 pm
There will be a celebration of this summer’s Reading Theme – A Rainbow of Possibilities. Participants will enjoy a taste-testing adventure by sampling a variety of foods from every color of the rainbow.
Summer Reading Finale with Frozen Treats – Sat., July 26 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Participants will enjoy a cool treat as a thank you for participating in this year’s Summer Reading program. This event is open to readers of all ages.
Employment Opportunity:
Orange County Public Library is seeking Temporary Library Assistants for the Main Library in Hillsborough. The closing date is 7/29/2025 11:59 PM.
Business
The expenditure of $903.00 for insurance was approved.
Reimbursement of $230.00 for books purchased at Purple Crow for the teen writing program was approved.
The Southern Branch has begun accepting book donations. We will begin sorting the books there and eventually arrange for their transportation to the Main Branch for the book sale.
There is not yet enough interest to establish a Friends group for the Southern Branch.
The book walk has been damaged. Jody will send photographs. We will reach out to a handyman to repair the damaged stations. The library already has the material for the next story, so we need to return the old story.
We approved $7,480 to reimburse for the costs of the Summer Reading Programs.
Registration for the Janet Evanovich event is now open.
BOOK SALE
Dates are 9/17 for set up and 9/18 through 9/21 for the sale.
Prototypes for the new set of instructions have been developed and are now being considered.
We will offer tee shirts for volunteers at the sale.
Community Work has agreed to pick up the books on 9/21.
There will be more clarification in the next newsletter regarding what kinds of donations work best for the book sale.
