TREASURER'S REPORT
Total bank balance $37,337.34, down $136.51 since our last meeting. Cash in is $300.60 from the ongoing book sale, $300.00 in donations and memberships, $55.72 in interest, and $4.00 in test transactions for the book sale. Cash out is $450.00 in start-up cash for the book sale, $329.00 for bookwalk repair, and $17.83 in processing fees.

Exploring Historic Hillsborough Walk

Explore Historic Hillsborough with Kafi, Main Library's new local history liaison, as she learns more about the town! We will be following a portion of Alliance For Historic Hillsborough's Walk Through Historic Hillsborough Self-Guided Tour and using the information they've provided to explore and learn more about the locations. The intention is to visit around 9 of the locations that the self-guided tour has listed. The locations are fairly close together and cover a little over 1.5 miles

We’re collecting donations October 1–19 at the Main Library Children’s Desk. Your contribution will help us stock the costume exchange on October 20th, where kids can pick out something new-to-them for Halloween or imaginative play.
BUSINESS:
Janet Evanovich program recap: The program was well attended and a lot of fun.
Story trail repair update: Rodney Beaver fixed most of the stations for a cost of $329. There was one station that needed additional materials, and the cost for repairing that station was a separate fee of $135. The total of $464 was within the $500 approved at a prior meeting.
Credit/debit card readers/devices: The tablet purchased six months ago took a long time to charge, did not seem to be consistently responsive, and would not pair with the wireless reader. Diane Kelly did some research and learned that leaving devices uncharged for long periods of time can cause batteries to deteriorate, so they should be occasionally charged between sales to ensure their longevity. Diane Kelly purchased a cheap phone at Walmart as an additional device to use for processing card sales. With the plug-in card readers, the tablet and phone, and board members using their phones as backup, we should be able to get through this sale.
The board was reminded to use the new form for counting cash in the cash box at the beginning and end of each sales day.
Spring book sale date: The spring book sale was set for Wednesday, March 11 (set-up) through Sunday, March 15th.
The board discussed ways to promote the sale to patrons of the Carrboro branch. One of the outdoor signs should be placed at the Carrboro branch for future sales. Flyers could also be prepared and passed out to patrons. Another possibility is to offer bookmarks with the sale dates on them.
Book donations/outreach: Options were discussed for using some of the donated books for outreach, such as placing them in little free libraries, offering them to teachers, and placing them in hospitals, laundromats, daycares, churches, farmers market, etc. Nancy mentioned that the library had stickers that could be placed inside books that would go to these locations. She will find the stickers.
A cart that the Carrboro library designated for Friends use was damaged while books were being moved from the branch’s Friends’ room to a vehicle for transport. Wendy will look into options for repairing or replacing the cart.
Funding: The board approved $250 to fund tissues and wipes for the library. Nancy will find out what particular brands the staff would prefer and will pass this info to Diane Kelly so that she can order the items.
Grace mentioned that the Friends received an email informing us that there is a $20 fee for placing signs around town. Diane Kelly will look further into this for future sales.
