March 20, 2025 MEETING MINUTES
1) CALL TO ORDER/ESTABLISH QUORUM – Meeting called to order at 7:10 quorum established. Present Mark Alexander, Diane Decker, Grace Johnston, Diane Kelly, William McLean, Laura Sumrell, Meg Stouffer, Tess Tessier (by Zoom). Library Staff: Nancy Crews
2) February Minutes approved.
3) TREASURER'S REPORT
Total bank balance is $39,190.60, up $224.48 since our last meeting. Cash in is $520.00 from donations and memberships, $298.50 from the ongoing book sale, $50.76 in interest, and $25.99 from online shirt sales. Cash out is $450.00 withdrawal for change for the book sale, $200.00 to Richard Dansky for video game writing program, and $20.77 in processing fees.
4) MEMBERSHIP REPORT
We have 160 active members. Since last meeting, we have received 21 gifts totaling $1,135.

Citizens learn the basics of prioritizing environmental health, biodiversity, and sustainability in their landscaping project.
Reduce Your Home’s Carbon Footprint – Hillsborough Climate Challenge
Friday, April 11 @ 2:00 - 3:30 pm
Habitat for Humanity will be discussing simple, accessible ways to coexist with our environment and energy conservation.
Youth Service:
Youth Climate Action Art Reception
Students from Orange County Schools and homeschool that participated in the Climate Action Poster Contest. Winners from each grade will receive awards at the reception and posters will be on display near the Youth Service desk from April 01 through 22.

Neuroscience for Kids – UNC Carolina Neuroscience Club
Thursday, April 10 @ 4:00 – 5:00 pm
College students studying neuroscience and psychology. Their goal is to ignite curiosity and enthusiasm for these fields in young minds through engaging, hands-on activities.
6) BUSINESS
The story walk needs some maintenance.
Those who haven’t sent in Conflict of Interest forms need to get them in.
$1,400 was unanimously approved for the staff appreciation lunch.
The Audit Committee met and reviewed our financial records. No problems were found.
The Writing for Video Gaming program went very well. 21 signed up and 14 attended and had a very good time. Interactive exercises were included, and the program was very well received.
We have been contacted by Cidery and invited to have a table at their book fair. Melissa Bourbon Ramirez will be participating as an author and representative of the Friends.
Botanist and Barrel is planning an event on May 18 combining local authors, venders and food.
$300 was approved for Chamber of Commerce membership.
Alexis Freeland has asked if we want to set up a table on June 7 to kick off the open-air summer reading program event. We tentatively agreed and will need people to attend the event.
The staff appreciation event if April 16. Mark, Megan and Melissa will attend.
BOOK SALE
There are two new rules for the book room. The boxes may not be stacked any higher than 8 high, and there will be marks to indicate the limit point. Only Baker and Taylor boxes may be used to load books.
Also, those who pack books must be careful to make sure to level out each box in order to avoid collapse of the stacks. When recycling, rip the glossy covers off paperbacks. Covers go into the trash in the Friends room. Hard backs go into the dumpsters.
It might be a good idea to do a training video for book sorting.
