the
semi-annual
book
sale
(checks
from
McKay's
for
leftover
books),
$300.00
in
donations
and
memberships,
$295.50
from
the
ongoing
book
sale,
and
$54.41
in
interest.
Cash
out
is
$135.64
for
website
hosting
renewal,
$134.38
for
the
library
water
cooler,
$30.85
for
staff
appreciation
(ice
and
flowers
from
lunch),
and
$19.05
in
processing
fees.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT We have 170 active members. Since last meeting, we received 14 gifts totaling
$395.

Summer Reading Kickoff – Unearth New Adventures & Community Resource Fair Saturday, May 30, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, River Park Grounds, Hillsborough Summer fun and adventure with face painting, balloons, custom poems, and community partners
sharing
their
resources First Monday Book Club: “Home to Harlem” by Claude McKay Discussion Monday, June 01, 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm, Main Library As part of the Black Literature, Arts, & Culture Festival discussing this book by a black queer
author
that
gives
voice
to
the
alienation
of
Black
people
in
1920s
Harlem. Hillsborough’s Black & Indigenous History Guided Tour Saturday, June 13, 9:00 am to 10:30 am, Main Library Tour led by Judge Beverly Scarlett will begin at the Main Library, follow a route through downtown,
and
include
the
history
of
Indigenous
People,
Maroons,
Free
People
of
Color,
and
enslaved
people
of
Orange
County. Hobby Buffet: Try New Things Sunday, May 24, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm – Southern Branch Do you want to try a new thing, but don’t want to spend money on supplies for something
you
might
not
like?
Like
sampling
a
buffet,
try
out
various
hobbies
with
free
supplies
and
browse
instruction
books. BUSINESS William reported on updating the website. He was hoping to have it before summer kickoff,
but
it
will
probably
take
until
June
to
make
sure
everything
is
up
to
date.
He
will
send
a
link
for
us
to
review,
and
it
will
need
to
be
tested
to
make
sure
integration
is
working
properly. We discussed budget cuts proposed by the Orange County Board of Commissioners. The
library
is
facing
significant
cuts
and
must
reduce
part-time
hours.
We
should
engage
in
advocacy
to
educate
the
public
and
prevent
additional
budget
cuts
to
the
library. William is developing a policy document on advocacy by the Board. It is important that we
make
sure
that
the
library
takes
the
lead. We might consider doing a membership drive or other activities to provide additional support. BOOK SALE We agreed to pay individuals to help move books. Nancy will send out a request to volunteers,
and
we
can
include
an
announcement
in
the
next
newsletter
asking
for
teen
volunteers. Meeting adjourned 7:37 pm
