Ann Burton, Co-Chair, opened the meeting with a welcome al 3:05 p.m. She reported on a change in membership dues. Dues for individuals have been raised from $10 to $15. She noted that the Friends had books and calendars for sale at the meeting. In addition, Sharon Wheeler from Purple Crow was present with stocking stuffers, including books. Ann noted that the Highlights of 2010 were on the chairs and invited members to read about the successful year. She then thanked the two board members- Linda Schmitt and John Idol-- \\iho were leaving the board and presented gifts. Linda and John have both been a resource to the new members of the Board. John also had the vision for an endowment and presented FOCPL with funds to put into it. Ann then recognized the other members of the Board: Janet Flowers, Susanne Vergara, Bill Barrows (who was not present), and Sandy Gerstner. Erin Shepherd made a motion that the Bylaws revisions be accepted. Ed Flowers seconded. The motion passed unanimously, without discussion. Susanne Vergara made a motion that the nominees presented by the Nominating Committee be accepted. Janet Flowers seconded. There were no nominations from the floor. The motion passed unanimously. The new Board members are Lori Graham and Erin Hits Shepherd. Ann pointed out the financial statements that were on the chairs. She then presented a $20,000 check to Lucinda Munger, Library Director. Lucinda described the items that will be purchased with the gift. They include end panels for the shelves to stabilize them, an LCD projector for the meeting room, five Kindles, and two tablet chairs. Lucinda noted that there has been a 30% overaU increase in business at the library this year, with circulations averaging between 20-25,000 a month. She thanked the Friends for their support. Ann then introduced our guest speaker, Lee Smith. Lee regaled us with tales of the Christmas customs she remembered from her childhood in Grundy, VA. She also read a letter selection from her book, Christmas Letters. It was a delightful presentation, enhanced by the unexpected snowfall outside. Thanks to the generosity of Sharon Wheeler (Purple Crow), four individuals won a door prize, a current book by a local Hillsborough author. The meeting, which was attended by 33 people, adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
