Friends of the Orange County Public Library Executive Board Meeting, July 12, 2010 Present: Ann Burton, Susanne Vergara, Linda Schmitt, Sandy Gerstner, and Lucinda Munger (Library Director) Co-Chair, Ann Burton, called the meeting to order at 4:00PM. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved. Treasurer, Sandy Gerstner, gave a financial report (attached to original minutes). Total checking balance = $28,551. 77. Ann reported that 110 pavers have been sold. Three replacement bricks will need to be ordered due to missing/broken pavers from original order. Board approved Ed Flowers' suggestion that all orders be finalized by July 2 t. Ann announced that plans were under way for December 4, 3:00PM, annual meeting with Lee Smith as guest speaker. This meeting will also include: presentation of check/explanation of funding to library; election of officers; recognition of volunteers; and refreshments. Susanne will verify with Chamber of Commerce that date/time do not conflict with town's Christmas parade. Semi-annual book sale with be held August 27 and 28. Friends will be invited to shop on Friday from 3:00-7:00PM. Public will be invited from 7:00 - 9:00PM as this is August Last Friday. Book sale is being chaired by Ann Burton and Janet Flowers. Books from Cedar Grove collection will be among items to be sold as this branch is being closed. Board approved purchase of sign for On-going Book Sale as well as investigation into purchase of banner for semi-annual book sales. Susanne gave update on program committee planning. Event tentatively scheduled for Sept. 25 will be rescheduled. Linda and Lucinda announced dedication activities planned for Saturday, August 7 (time TBD). Public art sculpture will be dedicated with special Wayne Trapp exhibit in library's display cases. This exhibit will be prepared by the Orange County Arts Commission. Rebecca Wall Heritage Center will be dedicated. There will also be an afternoon jazz concert in library's meeting room. An exhibit focusing on "100 years of history: Orange County Public Library" will be displayed at the Orange County Historical Museum. Invitations will be sent to Friends, county and town officials, etc. Informal discussion was held on possible ways to attract a more diverse group of children/parents to special programs. Lucinda will talk with Craig Benedict, county director of planning, regarding possible special times for public transportation to library.
