Friends of the Orange County Public Library Executive Board Meeting: May 10, 2010 Present: Janet Flowers, Ann Burton, Susanne Vergara, Bill Barrows, John Idol and Lucinda Munger Co-chair, Janet Flowers, called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. Lucinda Munger, Director of the Orange County Public Library, reported that the Orange County budget will be presented to the Board of County Commissioners on May 18, 2010. She announced the Summer Reading Program . Minutes from the April meeting were approved. Ann Burton presented the Treasurer's report in the absence of Sandy Gerstner. The current balance in checking n s $19,998.01. Memberships year-to-date account for $3,908.00, Thus far, the Ongoing Book Sales have ~ ~~brought in $938.50. The Pavers account for $2,100 in income. The May report also reflected the generous donation of $225 from Sharon Wheeler for the sales of the book, 27 Views of Hillsborough. John Idol moved that we donate $100 for 20 IO to the North Carolina Public Library Directors Association (NCPLDA) for lobbying efforts. Bill Barrows seconded the motion and the majority approved it. Susanne Vergara of the Events Committee presented a motion to accept the new FOCPL events policy statement which outlined the responsibilities of the Committee. John Idol seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved. Susanne also reported that Susan Soleil of the Soleil Bookbindery in Carrboro will be our speaker at the 2nd Quarterly Friends Meeting on June 5t\ 2010. The Yellow Brick Road: An Evening at the Library (Paver Event) will be on May 28th from 6-8 p.m. It will include a paver contest, paver sales, a band, refreshment and prizes. Janet will be asking for volunteers to help with the event. The Paver Committee has spent $250 for brochures. Other expenses were discussed and the following motions came out of that discussion: Bill Barrows moved that we spend $100 for newspaper ads. Susanne Vergara seconded the motion. It was unanimously approved. Ann Burton will place these in the local papers. G John Idol moved that we spend up to $200 for refreshments for the Yellow Brick Road Event. Bill Barrows - seconded the motion. It was unanimously approved. The Board hopes to spend far less than this amount so will be considering these expenses very carefully.
