The Main Library walkway already carries roughly 430 names and messages from earlier Friends campaigns. Between 2009 and 2014, community members filled it with memorials, family names, thank-yous, milestones, and special lines.
Now, for the first time in more than a decade, we’re opening a new run of 200 bricks in the same walkway.
A brick can honor someone you love, mark a date worth remembering, recognize a family or organization, thank a librarian who made a difference, or simply preserve a few words worth keeping.
Each brick is $100, including engraving and installation. Proceeds help support Summer Reading, staff development, library programs, equipment, and other needs beyond the public budget.

Frequently Asked Questions
- When will my brick be installed?
Bricks are engraved and installed in batches rather than one at a time, so there is a wait between ordering and placement. We will email you when your brick is in the ground. In the meantime, approved inscriptions appear in the walkway display on this page.
- May I order a brick as a gift or memorial?
Yes. Many bricks honor a person, a family, or a memory. Use the notes field to tell us about it, and if you would like the honoree or their family notified, include their details there and we will be glad to help.
- What wording is allowed?
Up to three lines of 14 characters each, using letters, numbers, spaces, and & . , ' - /. Engraving is cut in capitals. Inscriptions must be appropriate for a public library setting; a volunteer reads each one before it is engraved, and we will contact you if there is a question about the wording.
- May I change or cancel my order?
Reply to your confirmation email and we can change or cancel your order right up until its batch goes to the engraver. Once engraving begins, the wording is cut in stone and changes are no longer possible.
- How will I find my brick?
Every brick in this campaign goes into the walkway at the Main Library in Hillsborough, alongside the roughly 430 bricks from earlier campaigns. We will email you when yours has been installed.
