We want this website to work for everyone in Orange County, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, or reduced-motion settings. That’s the same spirit the library itself runs on, and we try to hold ourselves to it.
What we’ve built in
- A skip-to-content link and consistent page landmarks for screen reader and keyboard navigation.
- Keyboard-visible focus indicators on interactive elements.
- Color choices checked against WCAG contrast guidance, on light and dark surfaces.
- Animations that respect your device’s reduced-motion setting.
- Text alternatives for meaningful images, and charts accompanied by written summaries or data tables.
Known limitations
Our newsletter archive includes PDFs going back to 2011; the older ones were scanned or produced long before accessibility was on anyone’s mind, and they may not read well with assistive technology. If you need the content of any archived newsletter in a more accessible form, ask us and we’ll help.

This site is maintained by volunteers, and we fix accessibility problems ahead of nearly everything else. If a page gives you trouble, please tell us through the contact form (choose “Website feedback”) and describe what happened and what you were using. We’ll take it from there.
